I've heard of a few people getting work with Commercial Extras but only a few so far; they're still a fairly new service at the time I am typing this. If anyone gets any work with them, either SAG-AFTRA or non-union, could you add a post to this thread?
Commercial Extras say they are a "talent listing service" as defined by California Labor Code 1701g http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displ ... &file=1701
To find out what a talent service has to do read California Labor Code 1703, 1703.1, and 1703.3,
and what a talent service is not allowed to do read California Labor Code 1703.4http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displ ... 703-1703.6
They have filed a $50000 bond with the state Labor Commissioner, which is what an "advance-fee talent service" (as defined by California Labor Code 1702.1) has to do.http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displ ... 702-1702.4
I recently counted 102 companies in California that have posted bonds according to the DIR, including Actors Access, Cricket Feet, Cut Above, Background Talent, Face2Face, Idell James, Jessica's A List, and Joey's. The bonds with ExtraExtra and Extras on Avail are now canceled. The link is on the "LA brings criminal charges against talent services" thread.
For more information click on the links for the California Labor Code. Remember that you are not required to join any service to to background work. There is more information about advance-fee talent services in the book "Extra Work for Brain Surgeons".
